11 go-to brands for cruelty free skin care products in India

Want to be good to animals? Here’s a starter list of cruelty-free cosmetic products you can find in the country. Go for beauty that doesn’t harm.

Ask the experimenters why they experiment on animals, and the answer is: “Because the animals are like us.” Ask the experimenters why it is morally okay to experiment on animals, and the answer is: “Because the animals are not like us.” Animal experimentation rests on a logical contradiction.

The quote by professor Charles R. Magel probably sums up the situation of why animal testing continues for products. Thousands of animals suffer needlessly in cosmetic testing and animals like rats, guinea pigs, and rabbits, are subjected to a battery of tests like skin sensitization, skin irritation, eye irritation, oral toxicity, etc., to assess the safety of a product. It is estimated that 50% of these animals die in such tests.

With India becoming the first South Asian country to ban the import of animal-tested cosmetics last week, there is hope that no animal will ever have to go through agony so that we are able to use a lip balm or a moisturiser with reassurance.

In the meantime, if you as a consumer care for the animals then there is something you can do about it. Opt for brands that declare themselves cruelty free. Look out for a certified Vegan logo or a PETA logo that declares that the product and their ingredients cruelty free. Or look out for a Leaping Bunny sign that signifies that the product is animal friendly. For your easy reference here is a brief list of 10 such cruelty free products available in India.

I don’t see how Body Care can be deemed cruelty free when 100% of their profits go to L’Oreal, one of the biggest proponents of cruelty on animals. Tch.
At least make a side note informing readers of where their money is actually going.
