One of Bangalore’s most active waste management community, the Solid Waste Management Round Table, of which active composter Vani Murthy is a member, has come up with the idea of introducing at least one million city dwellers to composting. The initiative is very much in the offing and it will take a month before it can be formally launched. However, during the Tedx talk held on October 4, Vani set the wheels in motion by sharing the information with everyone. The pledge is to keep organic waste away from the garbage dump for one week and compost instead. This promising undertaking has been titled SwachaGraha. Through various social media platforms, citizens of Bengaluru are being encouraged to volunteer and help in taking the programme forward.

Vani Murthy has been an avid writer for The Alternative in the past and educated the readers about composting. You can find related tutorials on composting here, here and here.
