On a bright and sunny Saturday in the month of May, CRY volunteers came together to paint the walls of Hosur Road in a myriad hue of colours!

With tins of paint and paintbrushes in hand, over 20 CRY volunteers gave a vivid makeover to the paan-stained, brown-grey walls.

The objective was simple – to raise awareness on child labour and Vaibav, a CRY volunteer, saw merit to this activity. He said, “People will look at it and think about it. I think this is a very good way of communicating a message on education.”

Not many know that there are 10.1 million child labourers in India and Karnataka has around 8 lakh child labourers. And these are just the numbers that we know of; many others simply fall off the radar of secondary statistics.

The message was clear – ‘Send them to school, not work’. Anti-Child Labour Day falls on June 12th and this activity was a part of CRY’s awareness campaign against child labour.
