Brighter Giving, Godrej’s structured volunteer programme is impacting thousands of lives with its long term skill-based projects. The key areas of focus of Godrej’s volunteer proramme are one-to-one mentoring and business strategy development for NGOs in India.
Teaming up with Mentor Me India, Godrejites take up weekly mentoring sessions for students from low income families by tutoring the children in all their school subjects and also give them exposure through field trips. They train the teaching faculty as well.
“I enjoyed teaching basic computer skills to underprivileged girls. The openness with which I was received and the enthusiasm that the girls showed was great!” says Salma Majeed, Deputy General Manager at Godrej Consumer Products.
Apart from direct mentoring, one of their most significant contributions seems to be towards overall NGO management and development. From designing E-commerce portals to developing market and fund raising strategies, the employees impact the vital operations of an NGO thereby creating a long lasting impact, again.
Godrej employees have engaged with the NGO Shraddha. Their off field projects include e-mail marketing strategy to facilitate interactions with Shraddha’s various stakeholders and did some ‘on field’ training for the autistic people by coaching them in football.
“I volunteered with Shraddha, an NGO working with autistic and mentally challenged young adults. I helped them streamline their donor management system and stakeholder interactions. Through this volunteering project, I got an opportunity to interact with autistic adults and live their lives for a few hours. This was an eye opening experience and one that I deeply cherish.”
Saurabh Jhawar, General Manager – Corporate Strategy & Planning
Godrejites worked to build a sustainable and scalable business model for Kshamata, an NGO working to provide women and adolescent girls faced with exploitative situations a chance to earn employment with dignity. Our volunteers worked on several product ideas and prepared a holistic business model that covered product categories, price points, sales and distribution strategy and a sustainable profit and loss model.
Connecting education to employment by guiding adolescents in their career path is another impactful project of theirs.
“I volunteered to build awareness on legal rights and mentored children who aspired to become legal professionals. The children participated in discussions and I thoroughly enjoyed our interactions. They were aware of their environment and had tremendous enthusiasm to learn.” –says Sneha Prabhu, Legal Manager
The employees end up improving the marketing strategies of NGOs. Employees from Godrej mentor adolescents in the particular profession that they have training in, whether it be legal or business or technical.
