What’s the best thing about Indian sport?

Athletes in the US train with NASA. Athletes in India train without even shoes on their feet.

Since we’re all still reeling from the cricket overdose we’ve been exposed to in the past couple of months, here’s a little breather. Check out these totally cool facts we should like totally be super proud about when it comes to other Indian sport:

• India has won only one Olympic gold in the past 30 years.

• Our all-time Olympic medal tally is 26. To put that into perspective, the USA has the highest number of medals with 2681 medals. That’s over 100 times our own tally!

• India’s won 8 gold medal in field hockey at the Olympics (the most by any team in the world), 5 of those between 1928 and 1952. Not bad, eh? However, India hasn’t finished higher than 5th in the past 30 years!

In a country filled with disparity and differences, it’s almost equally depressing to see the same inequality in the promotion and distribution of wealth and progress in Indian sport as well. It’s probably this inequality that’s led to these guys having to resort to make this video:

Maybe if we tried caring about sport, our athletes just might be able to win more #Medals4India.
