Why should I use social media?

Building your profile as a writer, journalist or topical expert helps to get a loyal readership and followers of your ideas/ideology. Popularity on social media works more wonders than a paid LinkedIn profile.

The more you promote your content on social media channels, more likely it will show up on the first few pages of different search engines.

As the figure on your social media share inflates, you move up the ladder to writer a series for The Alternative and well on your way to become a featured writer with homepage promotion, media access to events, exclusive interviews in the industry and remuneration.

How to ensure maximum reach and readership for my article?

Try and use as many keywords in your article that are Google/Yahoo/Bing search friendly – words that you yourself would google.

Share your article on Facebook from your profile (take added care to tag people in your circle who are invested in the topic), on relevant Facebook/Yahoo/Google groups as well as on your Twitter timeline.

Facebook being a visual platform, it’s a lot more effective to share any content using pictures. Hence, to attract maximum attention to your piece, share it from The Alternative’s page rather than posting it as a link on your profile.

You must share your article on Twitter at least 2-3 times in a day especially if it is based on a trending topic. Use relevant hashtags like #waterconservation #savewater #gogreen #untravel #greenfoodie #Bollywood as it directs automatic attention to readers/followers interested in the specific topics as well as enlists your tweet (with the link) in the hashtag followers or anyone searching for those keywords on Twitter.

For journalistic inquiries or feedback on your article, you may use The Alternative Writers and Put me in touch groups on Facebook.
